In North Myrtle Beach, oysters are less a delicacy than a birthright, best enjoyed with salt on your skin and a cold beer in hand. You can chase the tide to a weathered deck where the shrimp burger steals the show, or pull up a stool at a bar that pours its cocktail like a ceremony.

I have eaten my way from the marina to the main drag, and I have the sunburn and the stubborn faith in pepper sauce to prove it. The range spans a breakfast joint that shucks a mean bivalve to a buffet that charges extra for lobster and earns it.

So here is the list, go get briny.

Fresh oysters worth the wait
Friendly staff, lively happy hour
Local pepper sauce standout
Comfort food destination

I almost drove past Rockefellers Raw Bar, and I am glad I didn’t. The outside gives nothing away, but inside, the room hums with a comfortable energy, and the shucked oysters arrive cold and briny, worth every minute of the wait. The staff moves with a practiced ease, and the local pepper sauce, a tangy, heat-laced condiment, turned out to be the quiet hero of the meal. I lingered over the comfort food, watching the happy hour crowd grow louder. It’s not fancy. It’s better than that. I left with a full stomach and a new respect for unassuming doors.

The locals’ go-to spot
Steam pot done perfectly
Worth skipping the buffets
Yearly beach tradition
Memorable service, great pie

Bimini's Oyster Bar & Seafood Market is where the locals send you, and I now understand why. I skipped the buffets that line the main drag and settled into a booth here instead, where the steam pot arrived as a perfect, fragrant pile of shrimp, clams, and sausage, done exactly right. The service felt like a yearly ritual, familiar and warm, and the pie that followed was a sweet, flaky epilogue. This is a beach tradition I will repeat. The oysters were the anchor, but the whole meal felt like coming home to a place I had never been. I left already planning next year’s return.

Attentive service, easy parking
Seasoned crab legs, big sandwiches
Kid friendly, accessible seating
Live music, off season calm

Snooky's Oceanfront lets the ocean do the talking, and I was happy to listen. The open air seating puts you right beside the waves, and my oysters, served on the half shell, were clean and cool, a fine companion to the seasoned crab legs that followed. The staff checked on us without hovering, and parking was easy, which felt like a small miracle. The sandwiches are oversized, the kind you attack with both hands. With live music drifting in from somewhere and the off season crowd thin, the mood stayed calm. I brought no children, but the accessible seating told me this place thinks of everyone.

Highlights
Waterfront dining with boat views
Great crab legs and shrimp
Relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere
Worth a repeat visit

Crab Catchers on the Waterfront trades in a slower kind of pleasure. I took a seat facing the boats bobbing in the marina, and the oysters, though not the headline act, were fresh and well-shucked, a solid opening to a meal built around crab legs and shrimp. The crab came sweet and meaty, and the shrimp were plump, each bite reinforcing the relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere. Nothing felt rushed. The waterfront view does most of the work, but the kitchen holds up its end. I left thinking I would come back, not for spectacle, but for the simple comfort of eating well while watching the water move. That counts for a lot.

Oysters worth the visit
Impeccable service throughout
Generous sides for sharing
Complimentary honey touch
Comfortable, polished atmosphere

Honey Barrel Breakfast & Steakhouse sounds like a place for a morning stack of pancakes, not oysters, but I learned otherwise. The oysters arrived plump and briny, served with a restraint that let the sea speak for itself, and they were worth the detour. The service was impeccable in that quiet way that anticipates your next need. My sides came generously portioned, enough to share, and the complimentary honey, a small sweet note at the end, felt like a thoughtful closing comma. The atmosphere kept things polished but comfortable, the kind of room where you can linger. I did. I will likely do it again.

Attentive staff, great suggestions
Worth the wait, delicious food
Open, spacious, family friendly

Local on the Water has a name that promises a sense of place, and it delivers. I waited for a table, and during that wait, the flaky flounder, fried in a crisp, golden batter, became the thing I wished I had ordered. The oysters, however, held their own, fresh and briny, served with a side of the water view. The staff offered suggestions that steered me right, and the live music added a low hum of festivity without overwhelming the conversation. The space feels open and spacious, easy with families. I left full, slightly sun-warmed, and entirely convinced that the wait was part of the charm.

Highlights
Expertly crafted signature cocktails
Exceptional service from attentive staff
Remarkably reasonable prices
Great appetizers and drinks
Worth repeated visits

The Marina Bar and Grill at Barefoot Resort understands that a cocktail should be a small ceremony, and they perform that ceremony well. I came for the oysters, but the signature cocktails, expertly crafted with a balance I rarely find, made the evening. The bartenders and servers moved with an attentiveness that felt personal, not performative. The appetizers, including a serving of shellfish that satisfied, were priced remarkably low for the quality, and I ordered another round out of sheer appreciation. The setting, a marina at dusk, added a quiet glow. I will return, not just for the seafood, but for the feeling that everything here was handled with care.

Highlights
Excellent food and service
Fresh, warm homemade bread
Memorable chocolate caramel cheesecake
Busy yet welcoming atmosphere
Worth a return visit

Joe's Bar & Grill was busier than I expected, but the crowd only added to its welcome. I found a spot at the counter and ordered oysters, which came fresh and neatly presented, but the real surprise was the bread. Warm, homemade, and still soft in the middle, it disappeared quickly. The service kept pace with the rush, friendly and efficient, and by the end, I was full enough to skip dessert, but then they mentioned the chocolate caramel cheesecake. I ordered it. It was rich, not cloying, and worth every bite. This place feels like a neighborhood secret, and I plan on keeping it.

Fresh, made-from-scratch dishes
Stunning marina views
Attentive, personable service
Breakfast and lunch standouts
Consistent quality every visit

Seabrisa's at the Marina crafts everything from scratch, and I tasted that effort in every bite. The oysters, served over lunch, were fresh and clean, but the real standouts came from the breakfast and lunch menu, dishes that felt composed rather than assembled. The marina views spread out beyond the window, and the staff, personable and attentive, remembered my order from an earlier visit. The consistency impressed me most. Each time I come, the quality holds, which is rare in a beach town. I left with a quiet confidence that this place will remain a steady anchor for my seafood cravings, especially when I need something done right.

Highlights
Plentiful seafood choices
Attentive, personable staff
Well-stocked dessert bar
Worth the higher price
Fresh lobster add-on

Captain Jack's Seafood Buffet asks for a higher price, and I hesitated before paying. I am glad I did. The oyster selection, shucked to order, was plentiful and fresh, and the rest of the buffet stretched out with more choices than I could reasonably attempt. The staff kept plates cleared and drinks filled, personable in a way that made the room feel smaller. The dessert bar, stocked with sweets I normally skip, drew me in, and I did not regret it. The lobster add-on, a splurge, arrived tender and buttery. It is not a quiet meal, but it is a generous one, and sometimes that is exactly what you need.

Happy hour oysters, generous portions
Fresh seafood, carefully prepared
A detour you will forgive

Seabrisa's Waterfront Seafood Restaurant feels like a place you should save for a special occasion, and the oysters, served during happy hour at a price that feels almost mischievous, made the visit feel like a reward. The view of the water, framed by large windows, adds a quiet elegance, and the portions arrive generous enough that I left both satisfied and slightly ashamed of my appetite. The staff treated me with a warmth that felt earned, not scripted. Yes, it is a detour, but one you will forgive the moment the seafood arrives, carefully prepared and presented without fuss. I will reserve again.

Flavorful shrimp burger worth return
Great variety of drinks and desserts
Well-cooked seafood with bold seasoning

Waterfront Seafood Shack keeps things genuine, from the counter service to the weathered deck that hangs over the water. I ordered the oysters, which came well-cooked and boldly seasoned, and I paired them with a shrimp burger that I will still be thinking about weeks from now. The staff greeted me like a regular, even though I was clearly a stranger. The drink selection, including a few sweet treats, rounded out the meal, and the atmosphere remained unfussy. It is not a place for ceremony, but it does not need to be. The food speaks plainly and well. I intend to return, likely with a bigger appetite.
